We operate a fully equipped photometry laboratory where we can characterize several types of light sources or the optical properties of materials (surfaces and volumes).

Near-Field Goniophotometer

Near-Field Goniometers

Near-Field Goniometers

Near-field goniophotometers are used to measure the spatial and angular distribution of a light source. These instruments take a measurement of the light intensity of a source (angular data) associated with the spatial distribution of emissions from the source (spatial data). This measurement gives us access to a complete definition of the emission from a source (ray files) and can be used to create near-field models of compensation optics and obtain far-field data (IES files). Our two goniophotometers are also equipped with spectrometers to associate an emission spectrum with ray files. In its instrument inventory, Optech has a near-field goniophotometer for large sources (Radiant-Zemax NFMS 800) as well as one for small sources (Radiant-Zemax SIG 400).

Integrating Sphere

Integrating spheres are used to mesure the total light flux of a source. These instruments can determine whether a source meets required lighting criteria, in other words whether it is sufficiently powerful for its needs. Optech owns a 40-inch sphere that can be used for medium-sized sources. It can also take spectral measurements of a source. Tests that follow the LM-79 standard can also be performed with the sphere.

Imaging Sphere

Imaging Sphere

Imaging spheres are used to take transmission (BTDF), reflection (BRDF) and far-field goniometric measurements. They can also measure the contrast of an LCD screen based on the angle of observation of the device. To perform these types of measurement, Optech is equipped with an imaging sphere

Imaging Colorimeter

Imaging colorimeters are used to perform luminance tests and colorimetric analyses. Our camera can be rented (with a technician) and operated outside the laboratory. Optech owns a ProMetric 1433-F1 camera that can be used, for example, to perform lighting analyses of a performance stage or an airplane cockpit.
